No Country for Old Men

The reviews for this film were amazing. People said it was possibly the best film the Coens have ever made. How could it live up to such expectations?

In my view, it didn’t. Mind you, I still thought it was very good, and far better than recent Coen films (The Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty). The acting was very good, with Javier Bardem deserving his likely supporting Oscar®, and I could see it deserving serious consideration in the adapted screenplay category as well. So I can definitely recommend it to anyone who can handle the violence and tension. But the Coens’ best film?

Maybe after I see it again someday I’ll see what I missed the first time, but for now I can’t give it more than 3.5 stars out of 4 stars.

Seen 12/11/2007 in Hawaii.
